We began our fistula program in Liberia after Ebola had decimated the healthcare system in 2015. Since then, IMR has completed 8 trips, assessed over 225 women, and performed almost 150 surgeries for women with obstetric fistula. We continue to nurture and strengthen the local healthcare workforce by training local surgeons following a training curriculum that we helped develop.

IMR partners with UNFPA Libera, the Ministry of Health, Phebe Hospital and the Liberian College of Physicians and Surgeons to make this project successful and sustainable.

Our goal for our fistula program in Liberia is to train 3-4 Liberian surgeons over the next 3 years. The surgeons we train can continue to mentor the next generation of surgeons. We also continue to explore new opportunities and ways for IMR to support Phebe Hospital.
